The Skultuna Messingsbruk brass works were founded in 1607 by Charles IX, the youngest son of Gustav I. Charles IX knew that objects made of brass were considered valuable and were highly sought after in Europe. Using the income from this new brass smelting industry, Charles IX could pay off the wardebts of his father, Gustav I, and elder brother, Erik XIV.
